Course Description:
This Dialogue gives students intensive Spanish-language training as well as exposure to the culture and history of Spain OR global health care systems. Students will take either intermediate or advanced level Spanish courses through La Universidad Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo (5 days/week). They will also enroll in EITHER a Spanish history and culture course OR Global Health Care Management. The program allows students to learn and experience Spanish history, politics, culture, and society through a wide-range of on-site lectures, research, people-to-people meetings and on-the-ground experiences in Toledo and Andalucia.

The global health care management course introduces the principles, structures and mechanisms of global health care systems and management within the context of interdisciplinary study. Interdisciplinary studies will explore the possible approaches to improve health systems at national and global levels. This course will introduce leadership theories concepts and models-such as managed care, organization and management, resource allocation, budgeting, safely, quality improvement and conflict resolution. Within the context of small groups, students will explore complex problems frequently encountered in the health care environment.

Prerequisite: LNS U102 or equivalent language proficiency

Cost: The base price of the program is Summer tuition. There may be an additional program fee depending on length of stay in-country, airline ticket prices, or other extra-ordinary expenses. Students will be responsible for some extra in-country expenses as well (some meals, entrance fees, personal travels, etc.). Students should plan to spend $1000-$2500 while in-country for spending money and if they intend to travel outside of Toledo on the weekends. Financial aid is applicable, so contact your financial aid advisor.

Application Process: The program is open to students of any major, but students should be able to enroll in intermediate or advanced Spanish language courses. Download the Dialogue of Civilizations application, enrollment form, and waiver form. Bouve students may complete all application essays in English. Turn in the completed forms to Cynthia Rapp in the International Affairs Office, 270 Holmes Hall.
